September 18, 2010 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: warming up to about 60 and moslty cloudy
Comments:
Third leg around 7:30am was better/easier than I remembered from last year. The "rolling hills" I'd expected were less steep and less frequent. There were three decent climbs in the final miles, but I was able to maintain good form and focus through them. I averaged 5:57 for 8.54 miles as opposed to 6:13 last year. (Despite draining my right foot blister, that foot continued to hurt, and the left foot now shows a nice, matching blood blister of equal intensity.) All in all, I came out pretty healthy, except for the fact that I can't put pressure on either foot.) I also couldn't stand up straight until about 5pm and I couldn't walk without doing that lifting the leg in an absurdly unnatural way until I swam in the frigid waves at Hampton Beach around 2pm.
All in all, I loved it. We had a great group of goats, including some of the guys I'd been close to in college, but who I rarely get to see. We definitely elevated our game as we feed off the energy and focus of one another. In the end, I ran for 2:00:59 to cover 20.66 miles. That works out to be a 5:51 average mile pace.
