flint hill race

September 22, 2010 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 75 and sunny

Comments:
gorgeous day! crazy traffic, the usual chaos when we got off the bus
we really need to do a better job helping everyone understand how necessary it is to do proper warm ups and cooldowns......ahhhh!
but the race itself went well.
started fast, passed alot as I went...especially dug in in the last 800, passing two more (incl. a sidwell girl) to get right behind alessa.
hard to stay focused though. all those loops, especially after a discombobulating bus ride...i like saturday meets so much better.
hey good news though...this might be a pr depending on how you count it. my pr was set at glory days last season (22:50), but the course was measured short there. and my next fastest time was 23:01. so today's 22:57 is technically a new record! yay! that bodes well for an awesome season! (but no, i'm not reading too much into one time. we all know that it depends on a million factors, including the course and the weather and the fatigue in my legs - cookie run yesterday left me fresh - and all that stuff)
but all in all a good day. aight now i'm just rambling in an effort to avoid having to go do my other homework
quick shout out to all the people who didn't race today. it is like the hardest thing in the entire world to watch your team warm up and not to be out there with them. but you guys were so much a part of today, whether it be via helping to time or your crazy enthusiastic cheering or your food providing (cough sperg i want the recipe on those cookies...and who brought the bagels? BK? you rock, whoever you are!) or your centering post-race encouragement and motivational talks for next time or your busride massages (love you leah! although watch out, because aleck gives a pretty mean massage too...you got some competition there playa!)...anyways you get the point. you guys are all invaluable to me and to the team, and it takes a village to run a race. we really embodied that village mentality today. I loved how everyone raced in packs, cheered in packs, had stare-downs with sidwell in packs...it was tough. yall kick ass. (can i swear on here???)
xoxo m
