Warrior Mtn. Classic!

October 2, 2010 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Good

Comments:
I was so tired when I got on the bus, I sat down got comfortable and had an hour long nap that really helped. We reached our destination and the cold wasn't too bad. It was fun going with some of the team to mark the trail and was fun talking and hearing jokes. Molly's scream, Sam marking everything, Connor's "It's a Trap joke," and Lilah's trident.

I wasn't really nervous when I went to the starting line. I was just going to race hard and tough while having fun doing it. It felt good to have home-field advantage. The gun went off and I got way fast, atleast top 8 in the first 150 meters. I slowed down a bit realizing I needed to be a little bit conservative the first mile. Rusty and Bryce were all over the course and everytime I saw them somehow I always managed to make myself go faster.

When I started to reach the hilly part of the course saw I kid throwing up which wasn't very reassuring and I got depressed when I saw the 45 degrees of hell. I got up the first half fast, but then I couldn't go anymore, kept trying to run but I would barely move, I was really close to walking up the rest but managed to stay in the game.

When Rusty told me it was all down-hill after that, I was so relieved and picked up, trying to as fast I could down those hills without tripping or snapping my legs. Every cheer from the team gave me motivation to get a quick boost of speed, and I went really fast on all the corners and passed atleast two people everytime. When I knew we were close to the finish I quickly picked up my pace and I was staying with about three guys slightly in front of me. The last 150 I wanted to pass them, so I gave everything I got. Two of them blocked me which was frustrated but I had enough in me to run around them and one guy was just screaming his head off, yelling NO, NO! I think it was a mixture of pain and defeat.

19:52 was the time, really good in my opinion. 1:10 off my 5k PR and since the course was very hilly, painful and slow I'm happy with what I got. Got some congrats and I had a lot of fun. I cheered a ton for the Varsity girls and guys, real fun trying to catch them and cheering them all on for their truly awesome performances. I got a thumb's up from Chris at one point so I'm guessing I wasn't too annoying. Dan was super-beast and I actually got a little emotional on how awesome it was.

Overall, I'd say this is arguably the best meet of the year so far. Maybe a close-second with Silverwood. Can't wait for Bend!
