Warrior Mountain Classic!

October 2, 2010 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
I woke up the morning of the race and I slugged it to the car and fell asleep on the bus. When I woke up, I looked out the window and there were the beautiful trees and the fog rising up on the lake...I knew it would be a great race! In the mountains I always revel in God's creation. I love it!
The air was so nice and fresh too! That felt pretty wonderful since I usually feel like I'm breathing in car exhaust in Meridian :)
Before the race it was fun to just hang out with the team and mark the course. Rachael, Sarah, and Savannah all jumped out and scared me half to death! It reminded me of that one summer night that me and a bunch of the girls were running at Bar de Nay and this biker came up behind us RIGHT after reading a Wanted sign for a disillusioned old man. Hahaha
Well onto the race
I was pretty nervous before the race. I thought I had a stomach ache but it ended up being just nerves, thank goodness. I truly believe that I have overcome my fear of racing!! Praise the Lord!! Last season, I found zero enjoyment in racing. I just saw it as something that had to be done. But this year, I love racing! I have found so much enjoyment these past few races, I can't even explain it! It reminds me of a quote from Chariots of Fire where Eric Liddel says that he can feel God's pleasure in him when he runs. That is exactly how I felt this race!
The first mile I went out just how I wanted to. I made it to the bridge in a decent position and didn't get stuck in a bottle neck before the first hill. I talked to the people around me A LOT this first mile, which I usually never do. I think this helped out a ton, because it made it go by faster, and i was able to encourage a bunch of other girls around me--it totally took the focus off of myself and my pain. Sarah got out in front of me, but I ended up catching up to her and we talked a little. I started going faster and before I knew it I was at the 1 mile marker.
I saw Fritz, and he was like "Good job, Nesbitt" all plain and dull-like...I am SO thankful for our coaches! Ha
The second mile, was a little rougher, but I noticed that I had been smiling the whole first mile, so I said, "why stop now?!" So I smiled the entire second mile, too! (Except not up 45degreesofhell) I don't really remember much of the second mile, just everyone cheering me on and how much it cheered me up. My mom was crazier than she's ever been, and I just had to laugh because its weird to see her so hyped up over sports. This mile I just ate up everyone's cheers. I LOVED it so much! All I can remember of this entire race is pure enjoyment. Nothing else. I tried to get the rocky girl to stick with me, but she didn't. I don't remember getting passed this entire race! I probably did a couple times, but I seriously don't remember it. I only remember passING people! Which was my goal that I set for myself after Bob Firman!!! Yay!!!
Third mile was cinchy! It was mostly downhill so that was wonderful recovery. I was starting to get more and more tired, but still felt extremely strong. There were these two Mountain Home girls a little ways in front of me, but I didn't pass them :( (bad part of race) So sad. BUT I HAD SO MUCH FUN THIS RACE!!! I cannot even contain my glee! I could feel God's presence with me running. I was running alone most of the race, but I wasn't running alone. Warrior Mountain was pure enjoyment. I loved every moment of it. I loved the spaghetti feed. I loved having friends over to bake Rusty's cake. I loved being in the mountains. I loved cheering people on. I loved seeing our boys team get an award. I loved the snacks that Devon's mom brought! I just loved it, loved it, loved it. Then taking a nap on the way back was the icing on the cake! I LOVEEEE NAPS.
Oh and Happy Birthday, Rusty! I hope you had a great day. We all love you!!!!!
