Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Good

Comments:
I was bit nervous going up to the starting line with the Varsity guys. I knew if I didn't get ahead of Sam, there would be no chance of me making it to district Varsity or run at State. I was ready, and the race began...

I got out fast enough just to stick with Sam. I knew I could stick with him and that's what I did. The first mile I stayed fast and I was trying to relax my body and say that I wasn't already tired. I kept trying to think pizza and cheeseburgers, but I was losing concentration on my goal. I was right on Sam, and by now I atleast doubted myself two times that I would be able to pass him. But he kept telling me to stay with him and I'm so grateful he kept pushing me, because I wanted to slow down.

The second mile, I was starting to fall behind a little. I was doubting myself again, but I was able to sprint on one of the corners and catch up again with Sam. He told me I was doing great and he kept motivating me to stay in the game. The girls were very supportive too. I loved hearing them cheer and I made sure I looked fast and went fast, because if there's one thing you don't do during a race is look bad in front of the ladies. Me and Sam were almost done with the second mile and I finally kicked it up a knotch and got ahead.

There was just one mile left. I went at a pace that wasn't comfortable for me, but I needed to do it. I kept running and running, and there was about 800 left. This one guy tried to kick early and pass me, but I wasn't going to allow it. I stayed his pace for a bit, but he passed me. But when I heard the magic words, which was something like there's a little over 200 left! My eyes widened and I kicked it, going as fast as physically and mentally possibly could. I passed the guy that got ahead of me about 100 meters before and he probably was like, what the heck this guy's insane! When Rusty told me I was at 17:16, I screamed in my head, I CAN BREAK 18! I went crazy-fast, but it felt like that finish line was a mile away even though it was so close. That last 100 was painful, but I finally crossed that dum line.

I was tired, exhausted, thirsty, just about all the normal symptons of a 5k race. I once again did something beyond my comprehension and got 1 46 second PR and made Varsity. I felt bad for Sam, and I told him I was sorry. Got lots of fives and hugs and accomplished the impossible. Thank-you everyone for the cheers and support and Sam for pushing me the first two miles, I wouldn't of done as good as I did without you.
