Phi K: For the Kids

November 6, 2010 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Phi K 2010, walked down to northside in the early morning. Cold and rainy out. Hung out at Luetner for a while and waited for the rest of the team to get there. I warmed up about 30 min before the start of the race. Had absolutely no expectations for the race. I was just doing it for the kids.

Started out and Jeff sprinted to the front, and I tried to chase him as a joke. By that time we were past the village, and I was still behind the top pack, so I decided to roll with it. Paul Z caught me and we ran together for the majority of the race. We worked together, and at Wade Park I started to push the pace and see what I could handle. I cruised all the way into the finish.

Did a little warm down with Jeff and David after, and then stretched during the raffle. Got a ride back and rolled after breakfast.

Felt really sore in the back when I woke up, but by the time I started running I couldnt really feel anything. Also, my knee didnt feel weak at all. The tights might be adding just enough support.

This was a positive mental exercise. I havnt pushed it in any way since stopped training last year. I ran that off of 20 miles a week and no speed or strength. I ran a 5:55 first mile. I had absolutely no idea I could do that. By the last mile, I had that feeling of fatigue in my gut and legs. I forgot what it felt like to finish hard and push my body. I honestly missed it. I am ready to be back there. I have a better idea about what it is going to take to achieve my goals, and how difficult it will be. I know that I need to be prepared beforehand, but I also need to execute when the challenge is right in front of me.

Congrats to all that ran. Chicago Chris set a new course record also.
