beach/desert/sahara ultramarathon

decided to challenge myself - and hopefully avoid the pain that comes with running on the hard slanty part of the beach close to the water - by running through the deep dry sand. it was honestly the hardest half an hour run of my life. i could feel the fibers in my quad and calf muscles ripping under the effort. i came back drenched in sweat (my mom asked me if i'd gone swimming) and breathing harder than i ever have at the end of a race. can i count this as a "training run" (ie comparable to hills or tempo or long)? i hope so... :)
