MLK tempo: the only option

January 24, 2011 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
People wanted to stay inside today because it was cold earlier, but I wanted to go out to avoid the track. No one followed ?. We did the Kamalsky warm up, which was interrupted by a team meeting in which we got our controversial shirts. I then proceeded to MLK alone. Did 15 min out, 3 min rest, 10 min back at tempo pace. I made it just a little over 4 miles. I am guessing that it was a bit slower pace because I was alone, there was head wind, and the footing wasn’t ideal. I shouldn’t make excuses though. I was really pushing myself (160+ HR at the end) for a tempo. My knee popped a little at the end of the 15 min, but I noticed if I keep my form up and eyes up, my hamstrings seem to pull everything back into place. I need to couple that into my form when I get tired (which I was at the end…). Cool down back to Veale. My left index toe was starting to hurt on the way back. I think I did something weird and jammed it on the weekend, and running aggravated it. It didn’t feel great. Jessica doesn’t think it is broken (it feels jammed) but I will keep an eye on it and ice it more. Its red and puffy…

Got back at a very slow trot. Did a ½ mile on the track w/ Carter, then did lifting. The weights were light and I didn’t to cleans because I didn’t want to roll up on my toe. It was kinda weak sauce actually…

Back up for a great stretch and abs w/ Nick and Lil Joe. Then I stuck my foot in a bag of ice, which is way colder than I though it would be.

Overall, I thought the run was a good piece of training for me. My mind is ready to run faster than I could imagine, but my body needs to catch up. Its frustrating, but rewarding nonetheless. This injury will be with me forever, and I cant forget how fortunate I am to train and show that myself and others that I can compete. There is a reason I am doing this. I could have quit a long time ago. I am confident to say that I love running and I am committed.
