Today was the 2011 edition of Spartan relays. I ran the mile again this year with the addition of a "B" 4x4 at the end of the meet.
Slept okay last night got up around 10. My legs are still kinda tired from the squats but thats okay. Over the lasy couple days I've been trying to look into the entries for the mile and they've changed but going into the meet it looked like it was pretty much going to be me and Staphan the whole way.
Warmed up, felt okay again not that great but not terrible. Definitly warmed up too early and had to jog around a lot kinda amelessly before the race. Turns out Stephan didn't show and it was basically me all by my lonesome the entire way.
I'm kinda mad he didn't show up I was banking on that fact that hes a great 5k runner to take it out hard so that I could sit back on him and run a fast time. Since he didn't show I just tried to keep pushing to keep the pace up.
The half was okay I was around 2:10 give or take a second but the second half was pretty bad. Just wasn't able to push through like I wanted to. Hopefully thats just a function of having no competation and still being pretty fried from the mileage and lifting durning the week.
I ended up winning by 12 seconds. A win is a win but I would have really liked to have a race because the time wasn't all that stellar and I really don't think it got the "rust" from not racing off since I basically just ran alone the whole time. The only real good thind I can take out of it is that I ran 5 sec faster than last year which is encouraging so we'll see how it goes next weekend in a real race hopefully.

The 4x4 was just plain fun. The team of drew, bobby, david, and I was awsome. I though we had really good handoffs and aquitted ourselves well for people that don't really have any for real speed. I ran like 54.4 or something which like the mile is an okay time for me.

Did a couple miles and had a meeting about the meet and then did a workout. Pretty much the same workout as last year. Quarters at goal pace with 90 sec in between. Went pretty well. I was tired but able to push through while keeping everything under control which I like to see. Splits were good and I ran even and was able to step down the times as the workout finished. Pretty happy with how this went.
