Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
It was a tough meet for me. I really really wanted to run an incredible mile, but it just wasn't my day. I warmed up fully twice and then had to sit and chill and wait and get nervous. I did some of my warmups inside on the ramp, and running "uphill" made my ribs hurt. I was alone, and I really felt it. Even though the team was there cheering me on, I was the only one wearing green on the line, and it was a scary combination of pressure to represent GDS well and loneliness as the only one out there.
I ran the race the way I like to run - starting at the back and working my way past people - but I didn't adapt to the specific conditions of the race. (The girls went out SLOW and I didn't recognize it and go around; I just went slow with them, ruining my time.) I think it was a good wake-up call for me because it reminded me that I can't rely on the other runners around me to dictate my race. I need to get out, push at the beginning, etc. I can't just coast along waiting for them to pick it up.
I am happy, though, that I could run a relatively decent time (6:13) even on a "flat" day. I think it bodes well for my spring season; this was a great workout/training race. And it lit the fire under me - now I have a bee in my bonnet and I'm ready and planning to push much harder next weekend!
(I'm also going to try some new approaches with these ribs o' mine. Maybe Veronica can help me out? Or maybe I'll just become addicted to advil? Or perhaps I can amputate at the waist. Hmmm...)
