Biking/ My Status

February 15, 2011 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Bike

Weather: Cardio Room

Comments:
I put all my chips on the table and contacted both Dr. Miskovski and Darrell Reed before biking. Robert, Dave Dixon, Thea, Mitchell, and I were all in there together at some point. Dixon definitely won the prize for the most intense biking, having done in 45 minutes what took me an hour. I was still riding at a good clip with a heart rate about 155 for most of it. The conversation was primarily about sports but had a lot of dead spots.

Dr. Miskovski told Jessica today I should be able to start my mileage progression. My foot is not 100% but she says the risk of rupturing the tendon is very small this long after a cortisone shot so I should be able run as much as I feel comfortable doing. I am still concerned about the pinched nerve and shearing motion of running. I called Darrell Reed and think he is likely the person to talk to. In the mean time I want to start building up mileage, probably only to 3-5 mile runs at this point. I am also supposed to stop wearing the boot other than walking down to campus and back.

I can't help but start to get excited today, though there is still some hollowness to my joy. I am not 100% and need to see to it that I become 100% at some point, which is partially in Darrell Reed's domain. Second, this is the first step down a very long road to doing anything of much value. Objectively speaking, I do not believe I can run well this season. However, I have thrown away so much potential in the last 3.5 years of running by giving up when it seemed hopeless to me that this time I want to do better. It is my last shot, a long shot, but I WILL NOT GIVE UP, no matter what. I hope I have finally learned something from my past mistakes.
