Veale up North Park to North Woodland and back (alone)-

Jessica taped up my foot and it helped--a lot. I had no pain whatsoever in my foot. None. Period. I originally planned to try 4 miles but my foot felt so good I tacked on another. This was amazing as the first semi-legit run after an injury always is. In normal terms I would be complaining about how terrible/sore/tired/out-of-shape-etc I felt but today I really didn't care. My knee was marginally sore and I had some weird cramps. My body felt awkward running since I haven't in a while and just finished cross-training for nearly two hours.

This is was the critical point in my rehab this far because as long as my foot is taped I can run theoretically as normal. This means I can build up mileage as quickly as the rest of my body will allow (which should mean ~60 in a couple weeks because there's nothing else seriously wrong with me). All that being said it is too easy to get excited on a day like today when I have a very long way to go. I still need my foot taped to run in shoes, though hopefully in a couple more weeks that will no longer be the case. Also, there is a difference between running period and running well and I am going to have a hard time getting to the latter. Still, this success today shows me there may actually exist a pathway to achieving that yet. I will have to be agressive but not reckless and make the most of whatever opportunity comes along. As I told Brandon in the cardio room a few days ago, the best race I have ever run in my life was Oberlin my sophomore year, taking into account all the crazy circumstances. But, if I actually succeed in running a good race this season, Oberlin could very well be eclipsed. I'm not expecting that to actually happen, but I am expecting to try.
