decided to run on the treadmill in veale because it was late and dark and cold. just planning on doing an easy run, then i realized how boring that was going to be, so i picked up the pace every mile til the 5th one where i picked it up every minute or so (8, 7:30, 7:19, 7:03, 6:45-6:00, 8). then i went downstairs and lifted for the first time in roughly forever.
and now i'm back at school... reading about valvular heart disease... on that note, i was happy to read in robbins yesterday that unlike pathologic hypertrophy, physiologic volume-load cardiac hypertrophy in runners DOES come with a parallel increase in capillary density so that there is adequate supply of oxygen and nutrients to the heart. interestingly, static exercise, on the other hand (ie weight-lifting) is associated with pressure-hypertrophy and is more likely to be associated with deleterious changes.
so maybe i don't feel quite so bad about slacking on the lifting front.
