Patriot League Championships

May 7, 2011 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
The weather today was crazy, as was the meet. When I got there and stepped off the bus it was perfect outside, and I made it just in time for the steeple. Evans took the lead off of a slow pace a lap into the race, but fell on his third water jump. He just sailed right over the barrier and hit the deck. At this point, Black took the lead and didn't give it up. Thats alright though. I like Dean a lot. Hes a great guy and deserved to win that race. Evans, though, got his ass back up and passed Transitions and Lehardy for second place, something incredible. Devin Monroe became a man today. He PR'ed in the 200 and 400, scoring in each. 21.80 and 48.74, respectively. Pat Ciez won the high jump, sailing over the bar at 6'10. It was truly amazing to watch. In the 1500, Hanko blew the field away with Rome finishing second. Abate didn't do so hot, and ran 3:59. Niall ran 1:52.00 in the 800, just barely missing IC4A. Kenny ran well again, going 1:55. As soon as we stepped on the line for the 5k, it started storming. Howling winds and rain. We went out in a 76, and then dropped it down. I was through in 2:28, and then I heard no splits for the rest of the race. I was in no mans land for most of the race, right in between the lead and chase packs. The wind slowed the field down, but Hanko won his second race of the day in 14:30, with Brannigan second in 14:34 and Rome third in 14:43. I was ninth in 15:04, just behind Craig Brown. I beat Livingston 7and Haney, but I think they were having off days. Oh well I still beat them. Flach struggled. He finished around 15:10, dying in the last mile. He was disappointed, but we talked on our cooldown about the team's chances for next year and he got into a better mood. It was a good talk, and I was happy to hear his perspective on life in general. I am excited for next year. My last race as a Lehigh freshman went great. Now its time to kill this 3200 on Monday.
