Peach Belt Conference 6k Race

October 22, 2011 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: coldish

Comments:
2 mile warm-up, 6k race, 3 mile cool-down. The race did not go as I would have initially liked this season. Overall 6k time was 24:57, 10 seconds slower than what I raced there over a month ago. Many of the girls I've previously beaten placed ahead of me - my overall placing was bad (23rd), but there was only a minute separating me from the number 2 and 3 runners... there was a large pack within reach and I will get all of them at Regionals.

1st mile was 6:04 and I was right behind the front pack. This is normally unusual for me because I am typically a front-runner at the start (even when I sometimes die). Slowed down on 2nd mile - 12:30 at 2 mile. From there, my legs were just not used to hte speed. I have the endurance, but legs were pretty shaky and SPENT on the last 1.5 miles of the race. They started shaking with about 1000m to go and I failed. Considering that I've been cross training and running low mileage for a while now, missing out on the speed workouts, I did okay and as I should have expected kind of... considering. I did 4 x under 6min miles 3 weeks prior, but that was on a flat surface on the road with long recoveries and water. The hills killed me.
