geneva 3k

January 28, 2012 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
waited all day to run the 3k. i was excited, and probably a little more nervous than i usually get. we did a shake out run around 11 or so, since we weren't going to run until like 5:00. warmed up together, and david, wyatt, mercer and I were all in the same heat. i wanted to try and stay with david, but early on i was going to try and sit back a little. went out in a 72, was aiming for 73-74. i wish i had gone out even the second slower, because it would have made me feel better. the next few quarters were 73, then 75 to hit the mile in like 4:53. it was about where i needed to be. but this is where the top group in the race pulled away. it just kind of seperated, and in an instant i must have convinced myself i couldn't go with them because i just kind of watched david go with them. then things kind of got ugly. next two quarters were 78, and 81, and i would have probably kept slowing down, had wyatt not passed me at this point. it motivated me into another 73, and then a pretty quick last 200, thought not sure what the math adds up to be. with a final time of 9:20. mediocre. still a pr by 6 seconds, but i obviously was holding something back if i could switch so quickly to that 73. coach told me afterward that nextt race, my objective is to be focused on answering any move like that one after the mile, just for one more lap. whatever distance that lap is, she just wants one more lap. hopefully that works me into a positive thought process where i just keep saying one more lap, one more lap until there's literally one lap left in the race. on a good note, i think this kind of first race bodes a little better for my season as a whole. last year, i think i came into the first race too ready. i didn't improve as the season progressed, and this year i can work a progression.
