Here's what I know about UWIC: The first part stands for the University of Wales. It kind of reminds me of a big state university; I think that's the idea. Not as academically rigorous as Cardiff, so the Cardiff kids rip on them brutally online. From what I'm heard AND what I've seen there, however, that's because the point of UWIC isn't actually school... it's sports. I've run by there once and did the workout there today, and I've so far seen a grand total of 3 people who were not CLEARLY varsity athletes - and 2 of those 3 were in their 50's. yeah... I also have not seen one building on their campus that is NOT either an athletic facility or an athletic education center. Also, the facility area with the track I was running on is called the "National Athletic Center." SO. I have concluded that "UWIC" is actually a uni for the best Welsh athletes, the ones that will actually represent Wales internationally (the mid-distance kids that I saw finishing their workout as I started mine were GOOD. REALLY. REALLY. FAST.) Also, it's quite amazing (and distracting!) to do a track workout when you're surrounded by gorgeous landscapes of small mountains. The campus is literally situated on top of one of them. which was SUPER fun to warm up to, by the way. not.
so I was kind of dead after my straight-uphill warmup to UWIC, and I got really depressed after the first couple of 800's. That is because they were much MUCH slower than I had hoped. This is probably greatly to due with the fact that this is my first track workout in 3 months, and I have a cold I can't shake, and my stomach was killing me, and I was dead from the warm-up, AND there was incredible wind going in one direction that kept stopping me dead on one side of the track. That's what I get for doing a track workout on a mountain. The 600 was super depressing, and then I got mad and told myself to just kill the 400. The first 200 was good and then I hit that wall of wind and just pushed through it the best I could, still not good. I need to just shake it off though. It was the first workout I've done! Also, I haven't heard back from coach yet about what I'm even supposed to be doing, and I didn't see that she sent any workouts this week, so I just pulled this off of one of last week's workouts :P who knows if I'm doing what I should be, I just wanted to do SOMETHING. I miss training with you guys tremendously.
Good job at All-Ohio/BW!! Looking forward to my usual track-results-creeping-extravaganza coming up at CONFERENCES!! Best of luck to the best of runners and best of people <3 I want you all back so I can chase you around for my workouts :P
Oh, and also... .7 miles is barefoot on the RUGBY field!! hahaa. This track is shaped differently to accommodate the field... it's more square and less elongated. took me a little bit to figure out why the hell the straightaways were so short... :P
