Exercise Type: Run
Weather: beautiful
Comments:
19:43 clock time, but took several seconds to get across the start line, and then it took off SLOW, because we were crammed into this little sidewalk. even though I positioned myself near the front, I'm sure the start alone cost me about 5 seconds. 305 runners, finished 39 overall, 3rd for women. Kind of funny, the two girls that beat me ran around 17:30 and 17:45, and then there weren't any more before me... :P hahaa. there were a few women in the 20's. the parkrun society does this thing called age grading where they combine your time, age, and gender into a percentage that supposedly allows you to compare apples to apples with all the other runners. by that system, I was 20th.
Sooo clearly not my best race! but that's ok. I've only been training for a couple of weeks, done two tempos and two track workouts, my milage isn't hight yet and before that I'd been off since nationals... so I don't think I should get too bent out of shape about this. it's just for fun anyway. BUT. it's flat, paved, fast... when the weather is also perfect like this I feel like it's a shame to not be taking full advantage of it. was tired when I finished but certainly not dead. I have more, and I'll race better once I start getting my milage up more, when I get more sleep, when I don't drink a can of cider each evening for several previous evenings... I can go on and on and make excuses, OR I can just run faster next time :)
Finished alongside this guy, maybe about 45 years old, who started forcefully talking me through the finish. He was like "NOW! YOU HAVE TO GO NOW! YOU CAN FINISH THIS!" and I said okay! and took off a little bit more and said "NOW YOU COME WITH ME!" and he said "NO! This is already under 20!!" hahaa. then I left him :P He told me after we finished that I need to work on my finish :P Honestly, I wasn't really kicking the finish, just picking it up a bit. I'd already raced not that hot and it didn't matter anyway. So I didn't kill myself. Did not see the point. Maybe next time.
After the race, talked with Alec Care, one of the guys on the Cardiff team. He ran 18:40. I intended to stay with him. It didn't work :P Next time!! But he was super nice afterwords and gave me a big hug and I felt better.
Cooldown was miserable. Desperately needed to poop. the lack of bathrooms at Bute Park is going to be a HUGE issue.
By the way, Good Morning, Everyone!! You know what time it is?! CONFERENCES TIME!!!!!! Go kick some UAA asses!!!! :D
