Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
didn't really know what to expect from the 5k. my legs were tired from the steeple, but i didn't feel terrible. knew it'd be tough to score, so there wasn't really much pressure-- just got out and raced. started out comfortable, in the back of the pack, and on the inside of the track. no one was really moving, so i just hung around. came through the mile in 5:08. around lap 6 or so, the pace started to pick up, and i tried to move. it was really crowded though, and i did move up, but not quick enough to get with the front pack. the second group materialized ahead of me, and as i moved towards it, the pack disintegrated into a loose string of runners. over the course of the last kilometer, i picked off a bunch of people. finished pretty strong, but didn't have much of a kick.
ran 15:56, placed 16th. about a 15sec pr, compared to what i ran at calvin in cross. it was fun, running the 5k. and i really enjoyed the steeple-5k double. hopefully i'll get to run the 5k a couple more times before conference next year, i think i can drop some significant time. both races were decent-- not outstanding. i pr'd in both, which was nice, but there's definitely room for improvement. i got out there and competed, which was my goal, so i'm satisfied with this weekend's performances.
