Easy MB to LC, HARD back.

May 23, 2013 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Very nice, 60's.

Comments:
Man, tweaked something in my left shoulder blade/neck. Sleep was rough. Kept waking up. UGH!

Woke up in a mental funk. Supposed to run hard today, but this neck thing was really bugging me. Slow going in the morning. Mentally preparing for what was to come.

Finally got out the door and I just was out of it. Stayed quiet and crawled into my "cave". On the descent, just felt awkward.

Couldn't really run the way I wanted to, blood was probably rushing to my stomach from the bfast we ate, and again, wanting to nail the inbound was at the forefront of my mind.

GARY was more than willing to "chat it up". Glad Joe was in front of me, bc I just wasn't "in the mood."

Thankfully, after a 22:45 descent, Joe offered his services. I layed down on the bridge while he "worked on me" ("Work on meh, work on meh!")

He did his magic and bam, I felt instantly better. Better range of motion and less pain. Thanks DOC DEHCK! :)

CAALORIES finally started to kick in also and the climb up to the Cemetery felt alright ("That was ALLLRIGHT!")

Was nice to mix in hiking and keep the effort chill. Gary did the most running of us all.....From his mouth, that is:)

Hit the Cemetery in like 1:07 and shortly thereafter, Joe took off. "JUST. THE. TWO...OF US!....(Just the two of us!)....Gary loves YOU...Gary loves YOU!"

Basically re-heard every story he told Joe. It was fine, it helped pass the time. We took it very easy over to DT, chill descent, and SUPS chill ascent up to Slab (but not before getting some "action shots" with Gary's phone on SB....)

Ran the Jeep Rd. to LC and saw Joe waiting there. Alright, moment of truth.

We all started off pretty hard (but not PRISON HARD), and after I mentioned "Anton's FKT", Joe decided he wanted to establish his own.

Our trio momentarily dispersed and Gary was more than happy to chase Joe down. 8:42 to Slab, 11:00 to SB (NICE!). I caught Gary right before the bridge and once we hit DT, he settled into a hike, while I settled into BEAST MODE :)

Chipped my way up very efficiently and was hitting some solid intermediate splits. Hit the top in 24:30 (barely a PR) and kept the flow to the Pump. Refilled in <20sec and got back to work.

Annoyed that I got slowed down by the "mule train", but after 1min of waiting for them to let me pass, I was back to business.

Fueled very generously and energy felt really good. I hit El D Creek with a :36 and knew I had enough to finish strong on MB.

Ran solid all the way to the top, but never really *pushing*...Didn't want to "kill it" yet....Was saving it for the last day of Camp.

Nevertheless, split a solid 31:30 to Carol's to bag a HUGE PR of 1:52+ (previous was like 2:04 or 2:05 inbound). Also, a 2min out/back PR of 4:15 (previous was 4:17....Funny that the 4:17 was literally racing from MB to LC & Back, whereas, the 4:15 was "half the effort" but a faster time....Manage the HR!)

Joe dominated that run with a 1:48 inbound and a new FKT (as far as I know...can think of anyone who could've run it faster than that).
