Krit Classic part deux

June 2, 2013 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Well I woke up today with no pain in my legs. This was fantastic news, however they still were a little heavy, but I can't complain. Went over to the high school to register with Brian at 7 for a 9:30 race start. Warmed up to the school at 8:45 for 2.5, when I left the house it was 82 degrees and climbing, so I was sweating pretty hard just after the warm up. Did stretches and drills, noticed there were no legit people around, although a couple kids on the high school team. First mile was a rolling downhill, and I wanted to get out pretty quick. My friend Max tried to go with me and made it about a mile, but after that I was all alone. I hit 5:06 for the downhill, and then my 2-mile (even up and downhill) I hit at 10:24. At this point I had a big lead and it was really hot out with a full uphill last mile, and I knew that I didn't want to kill myself to get the course record (16:31). I shut it down a lot (or so I thought) and finished in first by 40 seconds or so in 16:48. However, I did notice that the course seemed longer than last year. I compared to my map from last year and sure enough last years course (already longer being 3.15) had the start and finish line further up, so that this year's course was 3.21. So in terms of 5k thats more like a 16:17 or so, and I would've been under the course record assuming it was the same course from last year (my friend Nick who has the record things his course was even shorter). This was all pretty encouraging coming in near 90 degree heat on my first week back of training. After awards I cooled down at home for about 3 miles.
