Today I was comitted to doing things that "filled me up" vs continually "pouring out" and feeling "dry". Work was good. Rynn and Meagan - at different times - shared some personal stuff from their lives - Rynn with her sister and Meagan with her bf (who needs to grow up).
Felt rejuvinated by them sharing real-life things with me. I really enjoy listening to people share their problems. Not in a "I just wanna bitch to bitch, WOE IS ME!" sort of way, but in a "This is bothering me, what do you think? I need to get this off my mind" sort of way.
After work, swung by Chik-fil-a (never go there - maybe 1-2x's per year - but for some reason, chose THAT over In N Out - crazy, huh?) then it was off to practice at 3:45.
Drove from WJU over to a big Park in Lincoln where the team was to do 1k cruise-intervals. We have the Stanford Inv this Saturday. As I'm sure you know, Stanford is a HUGE Invite. The best of the best show up - high school and college alike - and battle it out on a pristine golf course near the campus in Palo Alto. This is where I ran my lifetime collegiate PR of 27:15 my senior year (2005) and then proceeded to bomb the rest of the year due to my lack of Summer base training, combined with Nick Vogt's "intervals like everyday" training regiment. Sweet recipe for early-season peaking, and late-season burn-out.
Anywho, the guys did 8x1k and for some reason, I felt the urge to "rub shoulders" with 'em. I didn't have my running clothes on (StarbZ work pants, work shirt, and no shoes whatsoever as I came barefoot). Ah, what the hay - all I need is my legs!
Jumped in the 2nd interval and immediately felt AMAZINS for the first 400. Then, my chest began to burn as my lack of cardiovascular fitness became apparent. Was insanely form-focused to compensate and this helped tremendously. Cruised it in with a 3:13. WOW. Was expecting to DIE off, but hey, I'll take it.
Then, proceeded to cough like a madman for :15. Ah, the memories of old! Reminds me of when we'd race an indoor meet in the Reno Livestock Center in February and all the "Rodeo dust" would, literally, clog your lungs and you'd be coughing the entire rest of the day. Ugh! Once the coughing calmed down, I decided to jump in the last one with, now, only Michael and Wayne. Parker then jumped int too and now, it was the "old guard" vs the "new guard".
We came through 400 in 76, 800 in 2:30, and "kicked it in" the last 200 to hit a 3:07. Dang boy! Felt wayyyy better this time compared to the first one. Chest didn't feel tight, and it honestly felt like I was just cruising. The "urge" is definitely coming back.
All in all, great day of feeding the "soul man", "flesh man", and "spirit man".
