We had the Loyola Blakefield relays today and our boys got second overall. We won the 4x800m in a school record of 7:59.8, (Boardman anchored in 1:58) the 4x200m, and the 4x400m in our A, B, and C teams. DZ ran a 57.5, outkicking a guy in the home straight. Exciting stuff! And I ran a 2:14.6 (65, 69) in the lead off leg of the B 4x800m team! That race actually felt alright, but I was pretty frustrated when I found out my time. I couldn't believe that through all this training my 800m only went down by about .4. Oh well, I thought, I'll be able to channel this into the 4xmile about an hour and a half later. No such thing occurred. I ran the third leg so poorly, getting the baton in good position, securely in first, nobody near me. I went out in 72, feeling okay, then running 2:28 (at which point Anthony said, "push this lap, let's keep it under five). I don't know my 1200m split, but, again thought I had run okay upon handing the baton to Griffin until hearing my time from Silas. Loyola beat Griffin by over 10 meters, and it was all my fault. With the exception of passing one person at about 550m in the 800m, I ran by myself the entire time. I don't think I've ever been so frustrated. After the mile I said that I thought I was supposed to be running well by now. Anthony said he felt glad to see me tired because it meant that 1) I had been training hard. 2) everything went over smoothly during winter. 3) I can't expect things to go over smoothly all the time. On the other hand, I don't know how in earth I am going to reach any of goals when I run like this. I wish I could run 4:34 say I had a subpar race.
