Cleveland Half

Exercise Type: Run

First half race ever, and I really enjoyed the distance. It's nice that at no point do you seemingly have too many miles to run.

I was overall pleased with the results but not thrilled. Off of 8ish weeks of training post surgery, the time is not bad. I was hoping for at least sub-82 and maybe sub-80. My pacing after the 1st mile was almost exactly even, which is excellent.

There were two drawbacks to this result, and both came from timidity. My first mile was a 6:55. Better than it being 5:40, but I wanted about a 6:20 to start. Way too slow. The other thing I didn't do so hot on was pushing myself. I never made this race hurt because I kept telling myself I wasn't in good enough shape. At the end I sprinted to catch someone and there was way too much left in the tank. I should've been more aggressive and less afraid to die, and I would easily have been under 80.

Planning on marathoning next. This was more because I wanted to race soon after surgery. Next half though I will be more aggressive and definitely be around 78.
