Mountain (or close enough)

July 17, 2009 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 80ish, but shady for the most part

Comments:
When we got to Wenatchee on Thursday evening, it was 6pm and about 102 degrees (dry). Though Bobbi had apparently mostly exaggerated about there being "great hiking trails," Dale was able to point out this one, which he and his wife and 13 kids (most of them anyway) had hiked earlier, telling me that if I could run all the way up it, then I'm "really in good shape."
Though I am undoubtedly in very bad shape, I figured if my unathletic uncle Dale, perpetually-pregnant aunt Bobbi, and their gaggle of children could make it up the mountain at all, then I should be able to run it, however slowly.
Luckily, I was still on eastern time and I woke up the next morning around 5am and started my run in an hour or so, allowing me to avoid the heat.
So with much, much effort (and three or for pauses to catch my breath) I did complete the almost 2,000ft climb to what Dale called Turtle Rock, which juts out over the valley and has a pretty great view. Unfortunately, my attempts at having a moment on the rock were interrupted by a swarm of gnats around my head, so I quickly turned around and started the uncomfortably steep run back down.
