December 30, 2014 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: Dark and finger-numbingly cold
Comments:
After a day of traveling in the car and eating sub-par pit stop food, the last thing on my mind was running. Once I got back home, I was almost completely resigned to relaxing. However, I recalled that both yesterday and two days before that had been pure strength days (due to family outings), so I decided to run. I wasn't quite sure how this run would end up, so I decided to do the usual: a simple out and back along Wisconsin.
Surprisingly, I felt great, and continued past Cantina and NCS all the way to River Rd. in Georgetown, where I turned at the 29 minute mark. I was immediately met with a seemingly endless hill on my exit from Georgetown, but after that, the way back didn't feel that much slower or harder. Although my split on the way back wasn't negative, I wasn't really expecting it to be, and It was only slower by about 20 seconds. I'm just thrilled that I was able to run nearly 8 miles (a new record!) when I didn't feel like running 2 steps.
On the technical side, I've noticed that my stride has slowly transitioned to a further back, almost heel strike, possibly because of my new shoes. It's not necessarily bad, but just new, and will take some getting used to. Also, I will make sure to wear some warmer gloves tomorrow. By the last quarter of my run, my hands were so numb I had to start and stop my watch with my chin.
