what makes something an "open letter". like josh gordon wrote one after his most recent suspension and someone wrote one about the beyonce/beck grammy business and has me wondering what constitutes an open letter. i didnt read (all of) either of the letters so maybe there was something in them that helps to explain it. but i've heard the phrase before this too. what i would guess it means is when someone who isnt a writer takes the time to say something in a public manner and is professionally presented. like through some media publication or something. it seems like the internet form of a press conference where instead of anyone asking you questions you just blurt out answers when no one asked you for them. publicly. i think thats the important part. to scream to everyone that you made some statement. just seems like an odd thing to me, considering i've always thought of letters as a more personal thing.
