April 10, 2015 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: Chilly
Comments:
Kate thinks I'm cheating. I don't know how she got it in her head. I'm trying to up my miles, and I don't really need to deal with this.
She confronted me this morning right before I meant to run. She scared me because I thought for sure she was still asleep. I had on my Asic, some outdated spandex, and a hoodie saying "<3 to run" so I don't know how much more obvious I could have been about my intentions. Still, she came down hard on me.
She said she knew I had been sneaking out and demanded to know what I was doing. I told her I was running, which I thought needed no explanation, but she wasn't convinced. She said she had noticed the lump on my head (no doubt from a jealous lover), the perfumey smell I came home with the other night, and--to kick it all off--she had found this site.
All of this had an explanation, of course.
Sneaking out = running
Lump = Mrs. Appleby
Perfume = also Mrs. Appleby
(Seriously, if she thinks I'm cheating on her with someone who uses musk and cat hair as her primary eu de toilette, I'm sort of offended. Not that I would cheat, but I do have some standards.)
She accused me of keeping this "online journal" from her. I pointed out that she must have missed the big, bold "Add Workout" and "Running Log" web domain. (I figured it was in my best interest to confess about the secret running.) but apparently that was all a coverup. Quite crafty, if it had been true, of course.
The entry she found was the last one, and quite possibly the worst she could have stumbled across. Not only had I taken a (in hindsight, unfair) jab at her being a homemaker, she pulled out phrases like "secret morning routine" and "secret physical endeavors" which, out of context, do sort of sound like illicit sex things.
I tried my best to explain what was really happening, but she wouldn't budge. She told me she'd be keeping an eye on me, so I might have to switch up my running routine. She also blocked this site from the home computers, so I'll have to log my runs at work.
At least the anger fueled a pretty good run. Two miles! Only 24.2 to go! I also did a brisk walk before going back inside. I'm doing this to help my marriage, not hurt it. I just need to keep focused.
