Long Run w/ Short Tempo!!

July 23, 2015 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: nice for once

Comments:
After a few consecutive disappointing runs, I finally had a great feeling day today!! Not sure if it was the better weather or just being more hydrated after my day off, but I felt like I could have kept going forever, and actually pushed the pace a bit on hills etc. Ran how I felt through my normal five mile loop, then extended up to the cathedral. Gave up on timing after my prev. slowness so I'm not exactly sure how fast it was, but I felt like I was back up to my regular comfortable pace-- at least until I got back up to ward. Some guy ahead of me was working the downhill; feeling confident, I decided to pass him, which I soon realized was a terrible mistake bc he was going a lot faster than I had been and also showed no signs of turning off mass. I had basically sprinted past him though and after leading for four or five blocks I realized it was too late to slow down without losing face; I wasn't about to get passed on the uphill! So I buckled down and tempoed the mile to westmoreland with this stranger on my heels the whole time. My knee started hurting on the last few blocks but of course by then there was no way to back down. Ending up beating him to the circle, yay, and he started walking afterwards-- I at least managed a nice recovery jog and turned off on butterworth with my dignity intact. Felt like some of the most intense speedwork I've done this summer though.
Strength afterwards: 1 min planks, 20 leg lifts, clams, single leg bridges, 1 min planks again just because
