Exercise Type: Bike
Comments:
Great bike ride on the CCT. I really wanted to get six days in this week, but I also didn't want to wear myself out with a two-week stretch, especially because I've been feeling a bit worn down over the past couple of days. So I decided to do a bike ride with my dad today. We made our way over to the CCT at a leisurely pace--with all the intersections and lights it's basically impossible to get a stretch long enough to elevate your heart rate. Despite the slow-ish pace, the trail did just that, and I was exhausted by the end of the ride. We went south from Dorset until the trail ended in Georgetown. At that point, I left my dad behind (not without telling him, of course) and tried to really push the way back, by which I mean not positive split too much. It's all uphill. Luckily I found a biker to try and follow and eventually pass, but he didn't seem to like being overtaken. So he started pumping like a madman to get ahead of me. He did, but I managed to hang on for a mile or two. It got my mind engaged on something else, not to mention the obvious humor in a race between a fifteen year old and a sixty-something year old on the CCT. I did positive split, but not by too much, so I overshot Dorset to add on some time. I made it past the Bethesda tunnel, but my bike didn't handle the bumpy path past that so well, so I turned around. It ended up being perfect timing, and I finished the ride back at Dorset. Biked to Bethesda for lunch and then back home afterwards.
