First of all: everyone was amazing today!! It was awesome to see so many people working hard and passing people in the 2nd half of the race. Freshman girls especially killed it!! I know I got a lot of energy and excitement from seeing everyone race. So congrats to all!
So my main goal for this race was to be positive mentally, and I think I mostly succeeded. I'd managed to not think about it for the last couple days. I got a bit more nervous in the morning when I was already sore somehow. And then I also got nervous when I had a coughing fit (I've been having some had coughing fits where I can't breathe after during the warmup. I eventually decided to race at the last second. Overall I think I was pretty positive and excited about racing. I genuinely wanted to, I didn't just feel obligated to.
So after an excessively long description of before the race, now the actual thing:
I really felt awesome! I didn't get caught up in the opening sprint, and just managed to pick people off throughout the race. I was both worried that I was going out too slow and too fast. But it turned out ok I think. But yeah the first 2.5 miles felt awesome! I was just really having a good time. Everyone was amazing about cheering and that just made it all the better. During the last half mile or so I wasn't feeling too great. Ideally I woulda got pushed a bit harder throughout and kicked a bit earlier but overall I'm pretty happy. Also I PRed :) But the main goal was the attitude, and the time was the bonus. Really excited for future races.
Shin hurt a bit during the warmup and then at the beginning of the race, but it went away. I iced after the warmup and when I got home.
