Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
workout today was so complicated that I had to write it down on my arm the night before so that I could remember it. (I also realized partway through that my calculations for how fast each 400 was supposed to be were slower than they should have been. math is hard.)
so we did 3 miles around the track where the first mile was at 40-60 seconds slower than 5k PR pace, the second mile at 20-30 seconds slower than 5k PR pace, the next 800 was at 10 seconds slower than 5k pace, and the last 800 was at 5k pace.
I failed miserably at this, despite the arm notes. I started out and realized I was going too fast but I felt like I was already going really slow so I didn't slow down. Thus my first mile was 7:56, when it should have been 8:23. I was worried that I would burn out (though I was feeling fine) so I didn't speed up much for the second mile, which was 7:53, still faster than the target pace of 8:03. By the time I got to the third mile I realized that I wasn't getting tired so I sped up, and if I did my math correctly, the last mile was 7:15. I messed up the splits on my watch so I don't know what each 800 was but I'm pretty sure the second was faster than the first. I also got lapped 4 times by tristan, so that was fun. I didn't really feel tired by the end of the workout and I wonder if I should have made the second mile faster. I feel like this says more about my lack of steady runs than the quality of my workout, but there were parts of the long run that felt worse than this workout. also no strength!!!
shins hurt before and during, gonna x-train this weekend and maybe take a day off
