I've never in my life finished a race and come so close to tears because of how happy I was. Not until this last weekend. I am more than happy to say that this was the best race I've ran in my life. I felt amazing. I started off my first mile feeling great and wondering how much I should push it before I lost it. I usually die in the second mile, so the fear was definately there. But I started moving up anyway. The second mile hit and suprisingly enough, I still felt good. I was smiling and I wanted to see what I could do. I started passing people one by one. It felt so good. Working my way up, I heard coach tell me that the tenth place person was right ahead of me. So that was my motivation. I kept my stride a good length and tried to keep my body moving a tiny bit faster. The third mile was definately the hardest. The pain hit and it was difficult to breathe, but I didn't give up. I got ahead of 9th and 10th place, but about 800 meters the battle began with them. We were passing each other back and forth. They got together and got up their speed right before the pavement ended. Getting onto the grass I sprinted the hardest I felt I could, but couldn't catch them. I was still happy though. Eleventh place. That is the closest I have ever come to winning a medal. It gave me motivation to believe that I could do anything I set my mind to. I will do my best to remember that fact throughout this season, and keep negative thoughts away from my mind. I beat my personal record this race and I hope to keep improving. This was an amazing race, and such a great day. The whole team did awesome. My good news came true, too. It was one of my happy races. :)
