August 20, 2016 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: Hot
Comments:
After going for a run late last night, I felt sort of ready for the race this morning, but a late-wakeup and eating breakfast probably didn't help. I warmed up, but cooled down while we were waiting for the race to start. I started my race at a strong, not overly aggressive pace, maybe a little faster than 5k race pace, but found it mentally challenging to keep that. I slowed down and from the half mile mark to the mile mark, I was doing little more than a tempo pace, partially due to a breakfast cramp. The final half-mile was a return to regular pace as Levi and I caught up to Jake and kicked. I finished well, but probably could have done better. As is, the weather was 30 degrees warmer than it had been in Canada and I really felt the heat. I also felt generally tired, so that didn't help either. All, in all it was fine and I'll try not to think too much into my races in August. I will take tomorrow off, so that I am fresh for camp.
