The race went out really fast and the Elmira girls cut right to the front of the pack which I wasn't really expecting. Right from the start I didn't like how the race was going, and I ended up just staying back for the first mile or so. My attitude wasn't very good to begin with, but once we hit the first hill all I could think was how much I hate hills. What was even worse was that I saw the whole line of girls ahead of me and I knew I could pass them, but I thought something like "what's the point, they'll just pass me again on the hills". So that basically summarizes the first half of the race. The second half of the race I actually started working and I thought I passed 2 girls, but I found out after that I passed more like 6. I was hoping to beat my time from pre-states, regardless of what the conditions were like, but I didn't which surprised me because this race felt a lot harder and I ran like 5 miles total the week before pre-states. Even though my time wasn't what I wanted, I'm still glad I pulled it together in the second half, otherwise the race would have been a lot worse.
