Bloody Socks

December 6, 2016 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
A wet and chilly run. I managed to stay somewhat dry. Ran with Will the whole time. Had one of our frequent conversations about pace-pushing and the culture surrounding that. I think that there is no reason to pace-push on any given day, unless there isn't a reason not to. I understand that going fast feels really good, yet it's just not productive. I also think that there's been a whole culture on the team created around it. It physically separates the faster runners from the slower runners and creates a situation where everyone wants to be running with the faster groups, but for the wrong reasons. One of the things I want to work on in the coming years on the team is working to remove this culture by showing younger runners the right way, because honestly, the team is going through some tough times racing-wise and the single most important thing on this team, that every freshman notices on day one is the culture. With this aggressive, rather unhealthy separation from each other, we divide ourselves as a team from our shared strength in our unity and bonds.
