Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
I think the main goal for this race is to run a faster pace than you did in st. Augustine half...
This will be a good fun race to see where you are at without too much pressure bc it's a 15k which is an uncommon distance...
I think if the weather permits, you are fit enough to go out in the mid 8's, maybe 8:30's for the first 5k and feel pretty good.
At 5k, assess where you are at and how you are feeling.
If and only if 8:30's pace feels good, then let's take some chances and pick it up a bit for the 2nd 5k of race.
A LOT will depend on wind. You may pick up the effort and the times don't show bc of the wind or vice versa.
But the idea is still the same... increase effort after 1st 5k and try to pick off all the stupid people that went out way faster than they should have. Pass as many as you can!!
For the last 5k of race, I'm just gonna say to dig deep.
Do what you can to maintain pace, pick up pace or just finish strong.(whatever that may be)
You may have a slower mile mixed in but that does not mean you can't come back and run faster for the next one. I do think it's an opportunity to see what you can do though, so
You might as well push the envelope bc you will have plenty of time to recover after this one.
So the last 5k is all about gutting it out. Doesn't matter how you do it, but just take one mile at a time!!
You are fit and ready for this distance...no joke!!
