Knew I had to get this in and of course, cognitively, the brain was in preservation mode knowing that I was gonna do about 3hrs and knowing what I had already done on Tuesday (still in the mental callousing stage!).
It's funny, having done this sport for coming up on 7yrs, coached for 10yrs, and having gone through a Master's program in Sport Psych - it's like I know the "games" the brain tries to play and I've been able to counteract the Central Gov. with "Oh yeah, well THIS is how/when it's gonna get awesome/positive!" meaning, I'll mentally map out when I know the run will start to be great (ie: A good climb, a good section, where there will be coooler weather, etc....) Whatever I can feed the brain - how this run will benefit *it* - it is so much more likely to be on board.
Sure enough, I knew once I started hitting this awesome 1mi/700' climb - combined with hitting the 90min mark - things would click. And they did!
Took it SUPER chill to Indian Beach and after the first repeat, I settled into the second and just hit "flow". It started to feel effortless and man, the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rep felt great.
But man, around 2hrs 30min, I felt the legs being worked (again, which is AWESOME because stress + rest = GROWTH!). The fact that my "muscular and mental fatigue threshold" is being pushed out further and further is a great sign. I love it and am loving this build-up.
