On my warmup run for this workout, I noticed that life is starting to come back into East Lansing. Parties were going, Dublin was packed, there was a lot of people walking outside, etc. It was just a great sight to see. I can't wait for the year to get started, as well as all the parties!!!!
For the workout today I did a 3 mile warmup, 6x 0.75 miles at I-pace (5k to 3k) with 3 min jogging rest, and a 2 mile cool down. At the start of the workout, I did not feel great. I was sleep deprived, my right foot was aching just a bit, and my legs didn't feel the greatest. I was a tad worried about my foot, so I almost didn't even do the workout. I decided to take it one interval at a time and I ended up having one of my best workouts of the summer. Luckily for me, it was mid to low 60s and a solid night breeze and I was able to surprise myself.
I did the workout up and down river trail in my Ghosts, so no spikes at all but I was running on the crete compared to my normal grass/trail/track workouts. The first 3 intervals didn't feel the best and I was just a tad above goal pace (which was 5:17 min/mile, 3:57 1200s). However in between the third and fourth intervals, I finally started to feel good. I increasingly got faster and faster by 5 seconds for the last 3 intervals. I got down to 3K pace on the last one (5:00 min/mile, 3:45 1200s). Despite being tired, I feel like I got stronger and stronger throughout the workout and I was super happy about it.
Overall great workout. My foot ached a bit on the way back, but I'll access it one day at a time. Also for some reason, I decided to time my recovery jogs just because I was curious how fast I did them.... I was pretty much right on previous estimations they were slow af.
