Comments:
I was in the last race, so there was a lot of hanging around beforehand. I felt really excited last night and most of the morning, until about an hour before my race, when I suddenly got really tired and couldn't breathe well and got lightheaded. In the last 5 minutes before, I got kind of psyched again. That did not last long. From the start, I could only take really shallow breaths, and every breath made my back hurt. I assumed I would drop out of the race at some point but I kind of just kept going. I came through the first mile in 6:50 I think, and then we went into the woods were there wasn't a lot of cheering. I tried to pass people but I slowed down a lot because I came to the 2nd mile I think at like 14:40 something. I decided that I may as well finish since I had already done most of the race, although I was rasping and wheezing a lot going up the one hill, which I did very slowly. But eventually I made it to the finish line, with a lackluster kick, I imagine, though I don't remember that well. Felt faint after the race and trudged through the cooldown. I was a little bit worried that I had wimped out and I could have gone faster, but those worries mostly disappeared on the bus back. I got really really cold and was shaking and just felt miserable generally. Zeke took care of me and Tristan gave me all of his layers and after 45 minutes or so, I felt a lot better. But it was kind of scary, and definitely made me realize that my body was not happy with what I did to it.
my time was better than past asthma attack races. I think my asthma race last year was in the 24s and my asthma race the year before was in the 25s, so at least there's that. I think this technically might be my 5k PR, but I ran a faster pace for my 6k at this course last year. Not sure if I should be really sad or happy that this is technically my PR. I really really want to get healthy and get something out of this season, but I'm also starting to get nervous that I haven't had good training for a couple weeks because of the sickness and I still won't be able to run well even if I do manage to rid myself of my cough.
