Comments:
Today was Little 3s!! We won, for the 10th year in a row. We went 2,3,4,5,6, so it was not close. My race was a bit of a mess, but I think there are a lot of positives to take away from it.
It started out pretty good. This race is really small, so I let everyone go out ahead of me and just hung out in the back. My legs instantly got tired after 200 meters, but they loosened up quickly after that. I was breathing hard, but not asthmatically and I just chugged along, slowly working towards two of my teammates, Jesse and Adrienne, who were working together. I came through the first mile in 7:15, which is slower than past races, which is probably for the best, since it helps stave off the asthma. The second mile is entirely in the woods, so it was cooler and I actually felt good on the downhills and flats. I got nervous as we approached the hill, but Jesse and Adrienne were only about 10 meters ahead of me, so I was motivated to get up to them and stay with them. Unfortunately, about 80% of the way up the hill, I started gagging and then throwing up. I leaned over by the side of the trail and Tibbs and Emma, who were by the 2 mile mark, came over and patted my back. Once I felt like I was done, I kept running. By that point, I was way back from everyone, and I had lost some motivation, so I kind of just closed out the race. I tried to push, but it was a lot harder with nobody nearby, knowing that my time would be bad since I had just lost 30 seconds or a minute. There was an Amherst girl about 20 seconds ahead of me but she looked very far away. I had a nice kick, which makes sense since I didn't really expend all my energy. At the finish line I had a hard time breathing but I felt pretty good shortly thereafter. Long cooldown cheering for the boys, who unfortunately lost Little 3s for the first time in 30 years.
Pros from this race:
I was running pretty well and felt strong before I threw up.
I was working well with teammates.
I didn't get in my own head and I was relaxed and happy on the start line.
I still finished the race even after puking.
I had more left over when I finished.
I have more confidence going into another race on this course next week.
Cons
v slow time
puking
I was last. I would have caught that Amherst girl, but oh well.
