Comments:
what a good day :) Today was our annual alumni meet. 60+ alumni from many years (including our very own Matt Simonson) showed up for a coed 5k on our home course. I tried to take it out slow and not let the big mass take it out too fast. I have no idea if I succeeded or not because nobody was calling out splits. I found myself about 10 meters behind Jesse, so I worked my way up to her around the mile in the woods. We were together for most of the rest of the race, which was very helpful, and Wyndom was just ahead of us the entire time. I would lose Jesse a little bit on the hills and get back up to her on the flats and downs. The hills in the woods were definitely tough, but I got through it without throwing up. I just kept telling myself that after the big hill, the last mile would be flatter and I would really push once I passed that part. I fell back a bit on the one other small hill in the last mile, but I used the downhills well to make up ground. The last 1k was rough because it's a loop around the baseball fields out in the sun. I was really tempted to give up a bit going into that loop but I knew I didn't have far to go so I surged up to Jesse and didn't let myself settle into her pace. I kept building and I think I had a pretty good kick. I didn't catch Wyndom but I was only a couple seconds behind her and was motivated by seeing her and Chelsey up ahead. Finished strong with a good kick and started crying happy tears shortly thereafter. It was really great because a lot of my teammates knew it had gone a lot better than past races and were really happy for me. That was the best part of it, getting lots of hugs and happiness from some great people. So anyways, a very good day. I'm happy with my effort throughout, and I'm really excited to try a time trial on the track. My time today was a PR, which is awesome, but our course is very slow, so it's awesome to know that there should be a big PR in me. I think a very flat, fast course is a minute + faster than our hills and grass, so hopefully I can run a good time. I don't know yet if I'll get to race again, but if I do it'll be a 6k at a fast course in Boston. Ideally, I'll get to do that as well as our annual track time trial, but I'll definitely be doing one of the two and I think I'll have more confidence going into either. yay for no more asthma, throw up, or sickness!

Wonderful to see Matt and all of the other alumni (now I actually know some of them!!) and to be with my team.
