My Dog Dominates the Mile (kind of)

December 20, 2017 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Mid 30s

Comments:
For the record, I did use "(Kind Of)" on purpose. Themes are important.

Today I ran 1 mile with my dog and 9 miles by myself. I wanted to test and see how fast my dog, Oliver, could run a mile, and I was actually really impressed with what he did. I thought he'd run about a 6:15-6:30 since he's never run a straight mile fast before, but he exceeded my expectations. We ran around a mile loop near my house. He dragged us out pretty fast as expected and he slowed down after the half mile. But with 400 meters to go, I encouraged him to "Turnover boy!" and he picked up the pace and kicked/pranced all of the way to the end. We finished in 5:41, which isn't a great time for me by any means, but it was a good time for the 5-year old guy. So did he dominate the mile? Kind of.

As for my 9 miles, I tested out a new route that I made on map my run. I started on the hilly long beach route where I ran into 10+ deer (not all at once, but decently spread out). I'm used to seeing deer, but wow that was a lot. I ended up going down Long Beach, until I reached a new road that took me to Highway 12. I ended up over by the Mexican restaurant Hacienda and ran on a gravel path alongside the train tracks, which took me back into Michigan and back home (I had gone over the border into Indiana). Overall it was nice to run on a new route. My legs didn't feel 100%, but overall I'm still feeling really good.
