Long log incoming.
Last night I couldn't sleep. I both wasn't tired and was also worrying about the snowstorm affecting today. Would we make it on time? Would we get in a crash? I got in bed at 10:30pm, fell asleep sometime around midnight, woke up at 2:00am thinking that it was 6:50am, then worried more about the snow. I eventually fell asleep again but then woke up again at like 5:00am for the same reason. I then fell asleep and woke up AGAIN at like 6:30 to Riley making noise slamming doors and shit. I eventually got out of bed at 6:50am to go pick up Charlotte at 7:10am. The snow was looking bad, but not like the end of the world bad.
Charlotte was running late and didn't have time to get food. She ate a bagel in the car and that was literally it. I offered her some of the food that I had but she refused. Anyway we made our way to GVSU with little to no problems on the road. We had to go a little slower to be safe but it was fine. We then both made a mistake to stay on I-96 past Grand Rapids so we had to take some random country roads to get to GVSU lol. We still arrived at 9:10am - which was perfect and what I was planning on. Due to the lack of sleep and the somewhat stressful driving, I was initially not feeling very good.
Due to the snowmageddon going on outside, Charlotte and I just ran around the track to warmup. For some reason, I was feeling more nervous for this race than I had in a while. This might have been the most nervous I have been for a race since I don't even know when. It was weird. Anyway the race came around and once the gun went off all my nerves went away and I just started cruising. These were my splits:
4:59
5:08 (10:07 - this means I was about 9:30 at the 3000m)
5:07
:34
Final: 15:48.66
Coming through in 4:59 was perfect and exactly what I wanted. But I then got complacent hitting 57's every 300m when I really should have tried pushing for 56's instead. Whatever. It was a good race and I nearly outkicked some guy from Marquette at the end. Just less than a second off my PR. I feel like if I redid this race I could have run like 15:40, but probably not much faster than that.
So then Charlotte's race comes around and she is feeling just as nervous as I was. Weird how that goes. She had a TREMENDOUS race running a fucking 18:12 and PR'ing by 24 seconds. Unreal.
Afterwards, we met up with her boyfriend Brendan who is actually a really cool guy (and really fast too). So yep, I continued my recent trend of third-wheeling lol.
On the way home the roads were super clear and I was able to go 80 no problem. Until I got near Lansing. Lansing was a shit show. In a stretch of just one mile I saw 6 cars/trucks wiped out on the sides of the road. Pretty rip.
So yeah I guess everything turned out ok.
