All-MSU Sales Competition

February 9, 2018 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 20s and snowy/shitty conditions

Comments:
So, today I competed in the All-MSU Sales Competition. It was required that I do the competition at least once before I graduate, but I decided to last minute sign up (because some dude told me to "Send it" when I was contemplating signing my name. Not gonna lie, I felt super-ill prepared and terrified before competing. I got 3 hours of sleep the night before and was thinking of dropping out. But ya know what, RVP doesn't quit and I decided to say "fuck it", wake up at 5:45am, and go send it.

Now the competition is that your a Gartner Sales Rep and your trying to sell business partnership with the buyer's company. I was basically selling a package that included IT research database, IT Cost Analysis Tools, and access to a former CIO of a company to act as a advisor. So I have 20 minutes to sell this product to a buyer in a room full of 4-5 judges. Quite intimidating.
When I got there, I found out that I didn't compete until 10:00am, so I had plenty of time to do some extra product research and prepare myself. I got myself as prepared as I could as went into the first round. I stuttered through my sales intro, but picked myself up and asked some killer need analysis questions and gave a killer product presentation. I didn't know what to expect after the first round, but I advanced to the Quarter Finals. It from 60 people to 24 people, so I was really proud of that.

I didn't make it past Round 2, but man what an awesome experience. I had a ton of fun and I felt like I actually learned a lot. 11/10 experience for sure. I'm definitely doing it again next year and going to try to be a finalist and win some $$$

Anyways, the run was 3.65 in very shitty conditions. The pace was dick slow, but that's because I tried to use as little energy possible to run through some heavy snow. It sucked ass tbh. Hopefully I'm ready to complete my legendary Sales Competition/Mile Double (Underrated double in my opinion)! I'm pumped!
