Forever the Wettest of the Boyz

February 20, 2018 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 60s and rainy

Comments:
Today was perhaps the biggest character building run in my 21 years of life.... ok that is a slight exaggeration, but this run was definitely one for the books.

We went off on an unusually warm February day. We were running the Abbott Trail... but without Brett RIP. The temperature was in the 60s, it was humid, and it was rainy affffff. Really fucking rainy. And of course Red Cap Jack had to show up to practice on the rainiest day of 2018 thus far. I knew this run would give me straight up traumatic flashbacks from Grand Classic earlier this year, but nonetheless we went off.

As expected, there were a million puddles. I knew Red Cap would be splashing, trying to spread his stage 4 to everyone. I actively avoided running right behind him (but of course still got splashed a few times). I didn't want to be splashed today, but my fate had different plans in store.

We got entered into an extremely flooded section of Abbott trail. Roughly 2ft of water for maybe 150 to 200 meters?! Now in situations like this, most would turn back. Most would not have what it takes to conquer the great rapids of the Red Cedar River. And I doubted myself. I thought back to all of those puddles I dreaded, all the times Red Cap splashed me. But then I realized one thing... I'm not a bitch. Definitely not soft! I followed only the hardest MSU Running Club men and we trekked into the icy river. The water reached well past my thighs, so I knew this was going to be tough. About halfway through trudging through the flood rapids, I felt the effects of the cold river rapids. I wanted to turn about, but continued to send it hard, because once again ain't no bittccccch! So I made it through and continued the rest of the run with some of the hardest MSU RC men (specific log shoutouts to BJ and Tyler).

On the run back, I overcame my fear of the puddle. I learned that to get over one fear, you must submerge yourself even deeper to conquer that fear. Every time Red Cap splashed me this time around, I became more alive. I became a stronger runner that could handle barrier that tries to enter into my path. Today I was baptized by the icy abyss of the flooded Abbott Trail. I was reborn into one of the Wet Boyz. Perhaps the driest of the Wet Boyz, but one of the Wet Boyz nonetheless. So though I originally thought this would be another generic run entitled "Red Cap is Cancer Part 35", things have changed. In some fucked up way, maybe i have to thank Red Cap...... On second thought fuck that.

So overall definitely a great run. I was disappointed to only hit 5.8 miles, when I wanted to hit 7, but this run was well worth it. Also thanks to everyone for the birthday love, I'll definitely have a detailed "first time at the bars log" on Thursday.

Also @Austin, I didn't know you starred in a commercial?! That's really exciting man! I put a link for everyone to check out below! ;)
