Comments:
Today I had my evaluation appointment to get eye surgery. Here is what resulted:
Good News: My surgery is scheduled for next Wednesday! Soon I will never have to deal with contacts or glasses again.
Bad News: My cornea is too thin and thus Lasik surgery would be ineffective. So instead I am getting PRK surgery. PRK and Lasik are the same in that the end result is the same - your eyes are fixed and contacts/glasses are no longer needed. However, while Lasik is pain free and only takes a day for your eyes to recover, PRK is painful and takes a long time to recover. For 3-5 days after my surgery, I will have to have my eyes closed as much as possible and will not be able to leave my bed or do anything. And for the first 2 weeks after my surgery, I cannot let anything water/sweat into my eyes, and therefore will not be able to any exercise/training at all. So after this coming Tuesday, I will out of commission until May 30th. That really fuckin blows fam. I will be starting at Ground Zero with only 10 weeks to get into peak shape for the USA Triathlon National Championships. And then after that, I will have only 3 weeks until my return to the marathon distance.
Needless to say, June, July, and August are going to be extremely intense. Thankfully, I will just be in training at Epic that whole time.
