Flag Boy RVP

May 22, 2018 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 50s

Comments:
Well today was day 2 at the construction site. Basically, I held a stop/guy sign for 4-5 hours and then with some shoveling/pipe laying/bitch work for a few more hours. Nothing event-wise that was significant happened at work today, besides the fact that I had Arby's for the first time and the guys at work couldn't believe it. Arby's is definitely ok, but man did I destroy a portapotty before I left work lol.

I definitely work with some interesting guys. The crew consists of two other guys (sometimes the manager who hired me shows up as well). They're both pretty amazed at the fact that I'm running a marathon this weekend, so they call me Forest smh. The first guy's name is Casey. When I first met Casey, I thought he was some 40-45 year old dude who has been doing construction his entire life. He's losing hair, the guy has some pretty hardcore meth teeth, the construction belly, and a pretty weathered face. As it turns out this dude is deadass 26 year old... only 5 years older than me Sheeeeeeesssh. Super nice guy though, but definitely has some interesting stories/ideas/traits. Some fun facts I learned about him are ...
- he used to drink 10 beers a day for 6 years
- he got 2 DUIs and his license was taken away
- he lives with his mom in Three Oaks
- he's a huge fan of Korn (shoutout Wes)
- he thinks the best place to pick up girls is at Red Bud (huge motor cross race in South West Michigan)
- he thinks typing is the stupidest subject taught in primary schools.

The other dude I work with is named Mel. Mel is a big, burly 50-60 year old dude who is the main operator. He's the type of guy who will yell "get over here boy" in the exact type of way you would think. He has a distinct southern accent, despite living on the Michigan Border. He enjoys trucks, women, and drinking some hard whiskey with the boys on Friday nights. Definitely hates and rages out when his boring machine doesn't work.

Definitely nice guys though. They've been decently nice to me, even though I'm just the flag boy and don't know what I'm doing when I'm doing non-flagboy-related-things. We definitely lead different lives, but I respect they're hard work/southern nature.

As for the run, I ran an easy 4 miles in Grand Beach again. The run felt super easy, but my back was hurting from standing around for 7ish hours and lifting things. Still hoping it won't affect my marathon on Saturday, but as I said in yesterday's log, we shall see. Is the money worth it? Well considering I hardly have any..... perhaps. So I'm gonna ride out this job, push through this marathon, and hope I don't choke.
