Exercise Type: Run

First run back!!! Oh my gosh it feels so good to be moving my body in this way again. But shhhhhhh, don't wanna jinx it. Following a rather ridiculous incident in which managed to pull my hamstring two weeks ago, I've taken 14 days entirely off. I figured it was a bit of a blessing in disguise since I really needed to let my right Achilles and left back of knee recover. They'd been bothering me ever since I idiotically decided to go for a long run the day after my marathon back in May. I never took a proper time off after that marathon because I figured I didn't need to, having not seriously trained for it. Still, I had been running fairly consistently since New Years, so I think its safe to say that a proper rest period was definitely in order.
What I'd underestimated was the psychological factor. It feels AMAZING to go back to once you've been deprived of it! Okay, that's probably not true always for everyone. I can remember times in high school when starting run again really sucked because I was so out-of-shape and was frustrated by how easily I got fatigued or how slow I was. Nevertheless, there something incredibly precious about letting your spirits soar, allowing your limbs to move in the way they were meant to, flying freely through the afternoon breeze. My whole day perked up once I started *moving*.
I managed to contain the pace to a 10-12 minute per mile jog, and so far, no pain. Did a good massage after and then a lot of walking. Obviously, I'm going to have to be extremely cautious about easing back in.
By the way, Sarajevo is a dreamscape, valley surrounded by picturesque mountains covered in shimmering rooftops. At sunset the call to evening prayers from the hillside mosques makes it sound like the mountains are calling to you in a soft lullaby. The sunset is gorgeous and leaves the sky aglow in an airy pink. I'm just dying to gallop up those mountains and see the view! (hopefully when I return in September!)
