Getting back to logging!

August 1, 2018 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 58F (as it likely will be for the next 5 months in Bogota...)

Comments:
After a long long hiatus, because I no longer have cellular and can't use Nike run, and because my runs in Colombia will likely be more worthy of logs than runs around Boston, I'm excited to get back to logging! I arrived about a week ago to Bogota and have spent the last meeting with my project mentor, attending a Fulbright orientation, searching for an apartment with 2 roommates I know from Harvard, and generally trying to get oriented and settled in a new city.

There are pros and cons to running around Bogota.
Cons: unfortunately there is frequent catcalling in certain areas of the city, I can't really run after dark, many streets are not pedestrian friendly (lacking clear divisions between the roads and sidewalk), drivers are incredibly aggressive making J-walking impossible, and I do miss my running friends from Boston.

Pros: the city is very beautiful and has a smattering of large parks (like parque Simon Bolivar and parque Nacional), the city is HUGE (at 8M people, it's the size of NYC) and has 20 unique neighborhoods, strangers have bee incredibly kind and are always willing to point me in the right direction, the city closes a few main streets on Sunday's (called Ciclovia) and it feels like the whole city turns out, and a couple great Fulbright friends also run so we may join a Colombian running club together or train for a race.

Oh and the run today was a short 40minutes (not sure what the distance is) and I'm definitely feeling much more acclimated after my 5-6 runs last week (each in the range of 30min to an hour).
